your doing very well so far, I'd suggest as an excercise to play with muted colours like sepia or greyscales to figure out shadows and whatnot, and observe how light falls on objects in real life. you'll find its much easier to start off with shadows using just one colour first to get a handle on it, then apply the knowledge from your excercises to your coloured peices.
